Amid the excitement and enthusiasm of today’s Oscar festivities, one particularly charming item of trivia has emerged: Kenneth Branagh is the first actor to be nominated for five Oscars in five different categories, as pointed out by Mark Harris. Branagh’s been nominated for Best Director (Henry V), Best Leading Actor (Henry V), Best Live-Action Short Film (1992’s Swan Song), Best Adapted Screenplay (Hamlet), and now Best Supporting Actor for My Week With Marilyn. Joel and Ethan Coen have been nominated in five different categories, too — Picture, Director, Editor, Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay — and George Clooney and Warren Beatty have both been nominated in four. More trivia, we say! Our brains cry out for more trivia.
