Bryan Fuller says his currently postponed Mockingbird Lane will be a “grounded, more realistic way†to tell the Munsters story. “We’re not doing bolts in the neck and Bela Lugosi,†Fuller tells EW. “It’s almost the Real Housewives of Transylvania. These are a blinged-out representation of what monsters would be doing if they lived in our society today.†The drama from the show isn’t strictly about monsterdom, either, he says. “Any story you can tell on Parenthood we can run through a Universal monster prism and tell it in a very twisted off-kilter way.†Fuller says the show’s possible start date was delayed owing to casting issues — “It’s hard to find actors who are agile enough to navigate the [tonal] turns†— but the show itself hasn’t really changed. “It’s an American Horror Story that the whole family can watch,†he claims — which, based on the script, is true only if everyone in your family is over, oh, 13 or so and has zero problem with creepy-crawlies, rats, and moody gore.
