Game of Thrones has been renewed for a third season, HBO announced today, which is incredibly unsurprising news given the show’s big ratings. There’s a major question hanging over the third season, though: How much of the third book will it cover? The first season of the show covered the first book’s robust 807 pages, and this current season will cover the events of A Clash of Kings, which weighs in at 969 pages. But A Storm of Swords is 1,128 pages long. Producers have said they plan to split Swords into two seasons, but HBO hasn’t confirmed anything yet, nor is it clear if it would be two more ten-episode seasons or another configuration. Either way, though, we’ll be swimming in sword-clashing, incest-heavy waters for years to come.
