See Rooney Mara and Jude Law on the Set of Soderbergh’s Bitter Pill
There was too much sunshine on East 65th Street last week. More specifically, Steven Soderbergh had to knock off early from shooting his latest film, Bitter Pill — about a depressed woman whose new prescription has unintended side effects — because the afternoon light wasn’t right for the artificial-rain sequence on the day’s schedule. So cast and crew reconvened Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., and — with just enough gray clouds overhead — the shower pipes were hidden in the treetops and hoses were hooked up to the hydrants. Soon enough, the valves were opened, and Hollywood rain fell upon Rooney Mara, Jude Law, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Edward Keating, who spent those two days photographing the goings-on for New York, says he saw an unusually professionalized set: no tantrums, no diva behavior, no goofing around. Soderbergh, he says, “had the typical long face on — you know, he’s trying to get it right.â€
