A staple of the modern blockbuster is the slow-motion action scene. (And increasingly, the slow … motion … action … scene … that … getsreallyfastagain.) Used heavily in kung fu movies (like this) and the films of Hong Kong directors like John Woo, slo-mo hit Hollywood in 1999 with The Matrix and has been firmly lodged there ever since. It has even started to bleed over into non-action films. In an effort to determine which current movie director is the slow motion–iest, we chose seven options. (None of them John Woo because, where is that guy these days?)
