Fresh out of Comic-Con is the unexpected news that Universal has been chasing Stephen Daldry — yes, the Stephen Daldry behind noted cheerfests The Reader and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close — for its adaptation of the smash musical Wicked. When asked to comment, Brett Ratner sang a few bars of “Defying Gravity†and then burst into tears.
