Joss Whedon is officially cowriting and tentatively directing a S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot at ABC, based on the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate organization showcased in The Avengers and various Marvel films. Joss will get a script assist from brother Jed Whedon, who wrote on Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and Dollhouse. It’s the first Marvel TV project since the comic company’s heroes took over summer moviegoing, and work is set to begin immediately. Deadline’s earlier speculative report on the pilot warned that “the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster.â€Â Wouldn’t it be great if Samuel L. Jackson stuck in the Nick Fury role, though? And won’t it be nice if this is better than Heroes?
