After being targeted by the boycott-happy One Million Moms group, NBC’s newest gay-friendly show now faces blackout in Utah. KSL-TV, the Peacock’s Salt Lake City affiliate (which just happens to be owned by the Mormon church), has decided against airing The New Normal, calling it “inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” As Variety points out, KSL has a history of passing on NBC series, including The Playboy Club, Coupling, and The Book of Daniel, but at least one New Normal star, Ellen Barkin, called them out on what what seems to be a case of prejudice. On Twitter, late last night, she blasted the station: “Shame on u @kslcom not airing @NBCTheNewNormal So L&O SVU (rape & child murder) is ok? But loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate?”
