Jim Carrey is in negotiations to star in a new comedy called Loomis Fargo, based on a real-life armored car heist, for producer Lorne Michaels and director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). The movie is based on the Loomis Fargo Bank Robbery, a 1997 heist pulled off by a group of armored car guards in Charlotte, North Carolina. Carrey would play the gang’s ex-military leader. Past drafts of the script have been written by Eastbound & Down duo Jody Hill and Danny McBride, as well as Up All Night creator Emily Spivey, but the draft Carrey and Hess are working from was penned by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, two writers for Fox’s Napoleon Dynamite animated series.
This is just the latest in a string of high-profile projects for Jim Carrey, who’s following up a pair of underperforming family films (A Christmas Carol, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) with a slew of big, exciting projects. He can next be seen starring alongside Steve Carell in the magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, due out in March. Currently, Carrey’s filming a turn as a superhero villain in Kick-Ass 2, with the long-awaited Dumb and Dumber sequel (entitled Dumb and Dumber To) also in the works.
