It’s been 11 years since the release of Zoolander, and Ben Stiller and Company are still pressing ahead with plans to make a sequel. The latest news is that pop star Lady Gaga has been offered £3 million (or $3.9 million in American) to make her comedic debut as Derek Zoolander’s love interest, according to the Telegraph. The sequel, to be written and directed by Stiller’s Tropic Thunder cohort Justin Theroux, is targeted for a 2014 release. Lady Gaga would play a lady woman who gets caught in a love triangle between Derek Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel, and Stiller said last year that Will Ferrell is written into the script and that the story will follow Derek and Hansel 10 years later, when they’re not relevant anymore. The filmmakers are apparently determined to cast a non-comedic actress in the leading lady role, with the Telegraph also reporting that fashion types Kate Moss, Kate Upton, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima are back-up choices for the part, should Lady Gaga turn down the fortune she’s being offered to try comedy for the first time. $3.9 million is a hell of a lot more than Gaga would make by starting her comedy career at an open mic or an introductory improv class.
