Judd Apatow joined Conan O’Brien for the second episode of his long-form interview web series, Serious Jibber-Jabber. Among some serious comedy nerdery (like their fawning over Airplane!), Apatow told O’Brien that when he was getting started, the first thing he wrote was a Simpsons spec script. As he explains, the story involves Homer getting hypnotized to think he’s Bart’s age and in turn becoming Bart’s best friend. Apatow reveals that after hearing this story recently, The Simpsons people are in fact going to make the episode next year. So, there you go, budding comedy writer: If you want to to be a Simpsons writer, just write a spec then work for twenty years and become one of the most respected and successful producers-writers-directors in comedy and bring the spec up in an interview.
