What to do on Thanksgiving weekend once the table is cleared, the leftovers put away, and the early deal-hunting complete? Zone out in a movie theater, obviously. In five days, box offices around the country made a record-breaking $288 million, a whopper of a number that beats 2009′s now measly-sounding $258.6 million. Coming in first place for the second week in a row is, no surprise, the Twilight saga finale Breaking Dawn — Part 2; its holiday weekend earnings of $64 million brought it to a total of $577.7 million worldwide. At number two, Skyfall underscored its title as the highest-grossing Bond film of all time, pulling in $51 million over the 5-day weekend. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln fell to third, finding a bipartisan audience for the holidays. Newcomers Rise Of The Guardians from Dreamworks and Life of Pi, Ang Lee’s pet project, rounded out the top five, raking in $32.6 and $30.1 million, respectively. It’ll be interesting to see what movies we pay for next week, when the tryptophan’s worn off.
