Noted Tolkien nerd Stephen Colbert is celebrating the release of Peter Jackson’s new Hobbit movie with a theme week on The Colbert Report next Monday through Thursday, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Report’s “Hobbit Week†will feature a different guest from the movies each night: Sir Ian McKellen (Dec. 3), Martin Freeman (Dec. 4), Andy Serkis (Dec. 5), and Peter Jackson (Dec. 6), all in advance of the movie’s Dec. 14th release. Stephen Colbert visited the set of the Hobbit movies in New Zealand last year and allegedly filmed a cameo in either the second or third film in the trilogy. About Colbert, Peter Jackson told EW, “I have never met a bigger Tolkien geek in my life… his encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien is spectacular and points to a deprived childhood in some respects.†On the topic of his show’s “Hobbit Week,†Stephen Colbert released a statement saying, “Elen sila lumenn‘ omentielvo… I mean that sincerely,†which is Elvish for “A star shines upon the hour of our meeting.â€
NOTE: That Elvish translation comes from Entertainment Weekly. I don’t speak Elvish, I swear. I don’t speak Elvish, you guys! Leave me alone!
