Welcome to the post-Twilight world. This, plus the trailers for Warm Bodies and The Host that have come out recently, all wade in the same young adult fantasy waters as the beloved vampire series. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which comes out next Auguest, is an adaptation of a best selling book of the same name, which is the first in a six-part series. The film, like the book series, focuses on Clarissa “Clary†Fray (Lily Collins), a teenaged New Yorker who learns she, like her mother, is a Shadowhunter, a half-angel warrior. She — with a crew of other Shadowhunters — fights to save her mother and kill some demons. Also, Jared Harris is there, rocking a three-piece suit as always. If it doesn’t make sense, ask your niece, she’ll be super psyched to tell you all about the series.
