Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence Are Trying to Make a Sitcom Together

Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are developing  a new multi-camera sitcom together that they would both star in and produce, according to a recent news story posted on Deadline. Before you go and say that’s a bad idea, you should know that the article mentions the two actors had a meeting with the studio in November in which they “showed great chemistry.†You feel pretty silly now, don’t you? The plan is to get a network to commit to 10 episodes of the untitled yet-to-be-written show, with an option to pick up 90 more if it’s a hit, which is the model that Charlie Sheen’s FX show Anger Management and TBS’s Ice Cube-produced series Are We There Yet? and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne have pioneered. Deadline mentions the Grammer/Lawrence series (feel free to use that as a title, guys!) “may have an Odd Couple feel,†which sounds crazy until you realize that Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are complete opposites in terms of age/race/demeanor/energy/everything else, and their many differences could lead to them having some wacky adventures together. Like, Grammer could teach Lawrence about fine wines, while Lawrence can share his knowledge of feminine hygiene. It practically writes itself. Speaking of writing, the pair are currently searching for someone to write the show that will be crafted around them and come up with an idea for a sitcom that will best showcase their “great chemistry†and “Odd Couple feel.†It’s pretty rare for a studio to talk about making 100 episodes of a show before there’s even a basic idea for said show, but hey, this could work out anyway!
