Shane Carruth won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival for the now cult classic Primer. And then years passed, and he didn’t come out with anything else. Now, nine years later, he’s finally set to premiere his follow-up at Sundance. The L.A. Times describes the film, Upstream Color: “A young woman (Amy Seimetz) is abducted and seemingly brainwashed via an organic material harvested from a specific flower. She later meets a man (Carruth) and after the two fall for each other, they come to realize he may also have been subjected to the same process.” Carruth already has plans to self-release the film, starting in New York and L.A. in April. And after that, he will begin shooting on his next film, The Modern Ocean, this summer —meaning we won’t have to wait another nine years!
