Will Forte and Tim Robbins just signed on to replace Ty Burrell and Dennis Quaid in supporting roles in writer/director Dan Schechter’s big-screen adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 1978 novel The Switch, according to Variety. The crime drama marks Forte’s second non-comedic movie after Nebraska, a father-son road trip drama he and Bruce Dern starred in for filmmaker director Alexander Payne. The Switch is a prequel to Rum Punch, the basis for Quentin Tarantino’s movie Jackie Brown, with John Hawkes and Mos Def (who now goes by Yasiin Bey, apparently) playing Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara, the characters that Robert DeNiro and Samuel L. Jackson portrayed in Jackie Brown. The plot revolves around Robbie and Gara, a pair of crooks, who kidnap a real estate developer’s (Robbins) wife Mickey Dawson (Jennifer Aniston). Forte’s character is Marshall Taylor, a country club member who has a crush on Mickey and is conflicted after witnessing her kidnapping. Just remember: the more time Will Forte spends flexing his drama muscles, the better actor he’ll be by the time MacGruber 2 finally happens.
