Well, so much for the Community comeback. Last night’s Halloween-themed half-hour of the Dan Harmon–less NBC comedy averaged 2.7 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults under 50, according to Nielsen. That represents a 42 percent dive from last week’s season premiere and the lowest ratings ever for the show in the key demo. Now, almost every show on the networks was down last night because of Valentine’s Day. But nothing came close to matching Community’s collapse. It’s possible this was all about viewers rejecting the new non-Harmon show. But many of the show’s fans may have simply decided to DVR the episode or catch it on Hulu. After all, something similar happened last March, when Community’s second episode back from hiatus dropped more than 25 percent from the week before. But let’s not kid ourselves: It’s impossible to spin last night’s numbers as anything but awful.
