While Mr. Show is the most famous of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross’s collaborations, there’s plenty of stuff they’ve written together that never saw the light of day - until now. Odenkirk and Cross are releasing a new book called Hollywood Said No!: Orphaned Film Scripts, Bastard Scenes, and Abandoned Darlings from the Creators of Mr. Show. The book is composed of scripts for two unproduced movies the duo wrote together, called Hooray for America! and Bob and David Make a Movie.
Hooray for America! was a planned Mr. Show movie (circa 2002) about evil corporation Globo-Chem creating a third political party and running an actor for president. This is the first anything’s been said publicly about Bob and David Make a Movie, and there are no details on the plot of that movie at this time. Hollywood Said No! will also feature scripts scrapped Mr. Show sketches, notes from silly studio executives, Odenkirk and Cross reminiscing about the lost projects, and brand-new storyboards for Bob and David Make a Movie from artist Mike Mitchell. The book doesn’t comes out until September 10th, and I apologize for making the next seven months of your life feel a million times longer.
