Yay, there’s more of The Americans on the way. FX has ordered a thirteen-episode second season of the Cold War drama, the network announced this afternoon. After a strong start, the show’s ratings dropped sharply for a couple weeks, but Nielsen data suggests that the initial drop-off for the series was largely attributable to viewers opting to watch on DVR rather than live. (Last week’s episode jumped a whopping 63 percent once DVR viewing from three days was factored in.) So hurrah for more eighties-styled Keri Russell and her pensive gazing, more Matthew Rhys and his notable sweaters, and, most of all, for more Noah Emmerich, who has been on a jillion things but might now segue from familiar face to someone whose name you actually know. He’s the neighbor guy/FBI agent, and he is the best.
