Anderson Cooper, Smash Win at GLAAD Awards

On Saturday, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation held its media awards ceremony. Among the winners were NBC’s Debra Messing-starring musical Smash, which won for Best Drama Series, and CBS’s The Amazing Race, which won Best Reality Series thanks to a big, prime-time sex-same kiss by its winning couple in December. AIDS chronicle How to Survive a Plague took home the Outstanding Documentary prize, while director Brett Ratner was given the Ally Award for his work on a PSA called “Coming Out for Equality†(which was made after he told a bunch of people that “rehearsal is for fags.â€) And finally, Anderson Cooper was given the Vito Russo Award for coming out on Andrew Sullivan’s blog year. The prize was presented by Madonna, who wore a boy scout outfit for the occasion.
