Comedy Central just ordered a 10-episode first season of a show called Broad City, based on the popular web series of the same name. Created by and starring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer as a couple of young people living in New York City, the web series racked up hundreds of thousands of hits and attracted the attention of Amy Poehler, who’s producing the TV version. Comedy Central ordered a Broad City pilot last year after the project spent a year in development at FX. Jacobson and Glazer, who also performed live Broad City shows at Poehler’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, will star in the TV version and produce alongside Poehler. This is the third show Comedy Central has ordered from web video folk in the past few years after buying Workaholics from the sketch group Mail Order Comedy and an upcoming TV version of Funny Or Die’s Drunk History from comedian Derek Waters. Broad City is set to debut its first season in 2014, when an estimated 90% of TV shows will be based on web videos.
