The Homesman originally would have marked a reunion for Hope Springs stars Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Now it’s a Lincoln reunion as well, with James Spader coming aboard as “a swindler.†Tim Blake Nelson, another memorable part of Lincoln, is also in there, as are Hilary Swank and John Lithgow. Jones co-wrote the 1855-set frontier screenplay and will direct. It’ll be Jones’s fourth time behind the camera, although only the second time for the big screen.
