Frances Ha was made as mysteriously as a small indie comedy could be. It wasn’t until the announcement of the 2012 Toronto Film Festival lineup that we knew that Noah Baumbach was even involved. Baumbach directed the film and co-wrote it with star Greta Gerwig. (They’re also dating in real life.) Gerwig plays the titular Frances, a modern dancer who can’t get any breaks actually dancing. Things then fall apart when her bespectacled BFF/roommate (Mickey Sumner) decides to move out. The film opens in limited release on May 17. Adam Driver wears a hat.
