Following in the footsteps of his former Office coworker Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak has landed a seven-figure deal with Knopf for two books. The first, a collection of short fiction, will see a 2014 release. “The closest analogy for me is Woody Allen,†Novak’s agent, Richard Abate, tells the Times. “Underneath these stories is a real intellectual curiosity. I think their appeal is that they’re incredibly accessible and comic, but at the same time they’re exploring the modern condition.†Can the second book just be about what it was like to be in Inglourious Basterds?
