The Hollywood Reporter writes that Justin Lin, the director of the last four Fast and the Furious movies, will not be back to direct Fast & Furious 7 (a.k.a. 7 Fast 7 Furious). His given reason was that the timetable was just too short. Universal wants F&F7 ready for a summer 2014 release, which means Lin would’ve had to start working on it before finishing postproduction on this summer’s Fast 6. However, THR’s sources close to the situation say the real reason is “franchise exhaustion,†which, in this case, means Lin is tired from prolonged exposure to exhaust fumes.Â
