Fox became the first of the big four networks to announce its fall lineup last night, and they picked up five new comedies, including Brooklyn Nine-Nine from Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and Andy Samberg. Other comedies ordered by the network are Seth MacFarlane’s live-action series Dads (which was given an early six-episode pickup in January), military sitcom Enlisted, Chris Meloni’s Surviving Jack, and Us & Them, a US adaptation of the popular UK series Gavin & Stacey. All shows have received orders for 13 episodes, with Dads’ six episodes also upped to 13.
Notable pilots that weren’t picked up include law firm sitcom To My Assistant, which featured Catherine O’Hara and Stephen Root, and the Rob Riggle/Angela Kinsey family comedy The Gabriels. Hit the jump for more info on each new Fox comedy.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Starring Andy Samberg as the lead detective at a police precinct on the edge of New York City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was created by Parks and Rec co-creator Mike Schur and longtime Parks and Rec writer Dan Goor. Brooklyn topped our list of this year’s 9 Most Promising Comedy Pilots, so it’s definitely one to get excited about. The eclectic ensemble cast includes Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, and Chelsea Peretti, with Samberg also producing and 21 Jump Street team Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing the pilot.
Dads
Given a six-episode straight-to-series order back in January before a pilot was even shot, Dads was created by Seth MacFarlane and Ted writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The multi-camera show follows two guys in their 30s (Seth Green, Giovanni Ribisi) whose lives get messed up when their dads (Martin Mull, Peter Riegert) move back in with them. Brenda Song, Tonita Castro, and Vanessa Lachey also star.
Enlisted
Based on Cougar Town writer Kevin Biegel’s relationship with his siblings, Enlisted is a single-camera show that follows three unique brothers working together at a Florida Army base. Geoff Stults, Parker Young, and Chris Lowell play the siblings, with Keith David as their intimidating Army boss.
Surviving Jack
Based on the book I Suck at Girls by Justin Halpern (S#*! My Dad Says), Surviving Jack is a single-camera comedy about a boy, his father, and both of them coming of age. Created by Halpern and S#*! writer Patrick Schumacker, Surviving Jack is executive produced by Bill Lawrence and stars Chris Meloni, Alex Kapp Horner, Connor Buckley, Claudia Lee, Kevin Hernandez, and Tyler Foden.
Us & Them
Based on BBC’s Gavin & Stacey, Us & Them follows two goofy families connected by a long distance relationship. Written and executive produced by David Rosen (I Just Want My Pants Back), Steve Coogan is also an EP. Jason Ritter and Alexis Biedel play the central couple, with Kurt Fuller, Jane Kaczmarek, Dustin Ybarra, Ashlie Atkinson, and the lovely Kerri Kenney as their wacky family members.
