Craig Robinson’s NBC Pilot Is Still Alive and a Contender for a Midseason Spot

Last month, the networks decided which pilots they were ordering to series for the fall. One promising pilot that was missing from the roster of new shows was Mr. Robinson, a teacher sitcom starring Craig Robinson and executive produced by The Office showrunner Greg Daniels. While Mr. Robinson won’t be on the fall schedule, Deadline reports today that the pilot is still breathing and “remains a possibility†for a midseason slot. Perhaps the network is waiting to see how Craig Robinson’s big summer movie This Is The End does at the box office next week before making a decision. Last season, NBC brass announced plans to push the network’s comedy development in a broader direction, a move that failed, resulting in the cancelation of every single new broad comedy and the renewal of Community and Parks and Rec, exactly the shows NBC was trying to move away from. NBC’s batch of new fall sitcoms looks akin to the broad fare that failed this past season, so it’d be nice to see the network pick up Mr. Robinson, as it’s in tune with the Office/Parks and Rec sensibility that’s been doing okay for NBC lately.
