Vine is a toy from Twitter that challenges users to make the most profound work ever committed to video in exactly six seconds. Or at the very least, challenges comedians to bring a little more laughter into this world. Every Tuesday we showcase five of the funniest short shorts of the past week.
Your RSS feed might be difficult and not show the videos, but trust us - they are there.
More funny people made their first attempts at Vine this past week. As part of #OneVineDay and the Just For Laughs festival in Chicago, some comedians who were either waiting for the app to get to Android and/or for other comedians to sway them with a joke and some playful nagging to get them to use it revealed their inaugural efforts. Here was Conan O’Brien’s:
Kumail Nanjiani faced a similar problem:
Brian Posehn asked Paul F. Tompkins for help about vining and only got empty reassurance in return, but got better anyway. P.F.T. meanwhile chose to give his followers a fly on the Green Room wall point of view. Mindy Project writer Adam Countee re-made King Kong, and Los Angeles Clipper (for now) Deandre Jordan asked those funny kids from that commercial for the Britta Perry of phone companies for help.
Here are the top vines from the past week:
“Don’t Fuck With Me Bro I Got Dog Gunsâ€
By Chris D’Elia
Chris D’Elia apparently gets so much respect for his many funny vines that dogs now agree to behave for seconds at a time to act as props in his videos. It’s very impressive stuff. I just hope that the NRA doesn’t get any ideas.
“Eighties Pop Video Director Lists His Requirements for the Shootâ€
By Graham Linehan
Graham Linehan has written and directed every episode of The IT Crowd, which will sadly be concluding with a recently filmed one-off special. Now with some free time on his hands, Linehan will presumably begin to shoot some eighties style music videos, possibly influenced by IT Crowd co-star Richard Ayoade. Consider yourself warned, saxophone players.
“Happy Father’s Day!!! #loop #selfie #cigarettes #pizza #magicâ€
By Steven Wilber
Hi, Steven’s dad here - I feel bad for little Steven and all, but after I left to buy a pack of cigarettes he seems to have developed quite the sense of humor. Truth be told, I was looking for some cancer sticks that cost less than twenty damn dollars, and after a couple of years I just lost my way back home. It happens. Nick Mastodon’s vine with his old man was also pretty amusing.
“The Guy Reluctant to Be Filmed in Someone’s Attempt to Take Down a Store with a Viral Videoâ€
By Jason Nash
with Moe Murdah
Jason Nash is a hot commodity on Vine lately. Just last week he collaborated with Steve Agee on “The Two Guys Who Can’t Not Vine,†an effort that found the two filming each other at the same time, perhaps inspired by Brittany Furlan and Marcus Johns doing the same the week before. Nash continued the theme of lack of self-control with Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker in “The Two Guys Who Despite Having Everything Will Eventually Destroy Themselves.†Perhaps out of jealousy, Nick Mastodon bitterly concluded his google hangout conversation with Jason. But the more ridiculously specific the scenario and title is, the funnier the vine, which is why the video that features the voice of Miss Moe Murdah gets the festival slot.
“Eggs Lookin’ At’chaâ€
By Bill Dixon
with Matt Dwyer
Everything had to go right for this to work, and it did. There is just the right amount of satisfaction on the faces of both Dixon and Dwyer on the fine work Dixon was doing on the cooking of the eggs - too much would be over the top, and too little would make it more glaringly obvious that Dixon should be focusing his attention on the naked elephant in the room. The best part is Dwyer leaning in to get an even better look at the breakfast he had already praised, and that there was enough time to witness it without feeling rushed.
Playing in Theater 2
Im glad Pam dumped that loser Roy & got with Jim by David Nuzzy Nussbaum, guest starring David Denman
If you know who David Denman is, you can guess how this went down.
Meagan Cignoli Ruined my Vine by Nicholas Megalis
And Nicholas Megalis ruined Cignoli’s vine at the same time.
I am Invisible by Jérôme Jarre
This explains a lot of Jarre’s fearless behavior.
A Brief Presentation on Craig by Brooks Wheelan
Brooks Wheelan really hates Craig.
Beta Test by Chris Hauslet
I don’t think Hauslet’s new app is going to catch on with people who don’t already hate themselves.
