Longtime Conan sidekick Andy Richter is getting ready to host a show of his own. THR reports that Fox has ordered a pilot for a new game show called Step Up that Richter will be hosting. Here’s the description of the show:
Step Up offers contestants “life-changing†amounts of money if they can successfully climb a pyramid, with greater rewards coming with bigger risks as they approach the top. Players will be faced with the decision to climb higher – to “step up†– or take their cash and go home.
This is Andy Richter’s second stab at hosting a TV game show. In 2010, Richter hosted a CBS pilot for Pyramid, a revival of the classic ‘70s game show originally known as The $10,000 Pyramid. When CBS passed on the project, it jumped to TBS, where it also failed to win a series order. Andy Richter is a quick-witted and charismatic guy who’s a perfect fit for a game show, and hopefully, Step Up gets picked up, giving him a chance to finally be a game show host. If the pilot does get ordered to series, I’m presuming it won’t impact his sidekick duties at Conan.
