The ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ TV Show Is Dead But a Movie Is in the Works

In May, CBS passed on making a TV version of Beverly Hills Cop after commissioning a pilot and producers opted to shop it around to other networks. Shawn Ryan (The Shield), who created the Beverly Hills Cop pilot, recently announced via Twitter that efforts to get the show to land at another network failed and that the project is dead for now. He did, however, add, “Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development.â€

So, it looks like Beverly Hills Cop IV is once again in the works. The CBS pilot starred Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder, Big Momma’s House 3) as Axel Foley’s son Aaron Foley, who is also a fish-out-of-water cop in West LA. Eddie Murphy played acted in the pilot and planned to recur if it went to series. There’s no word on whether this new movie sequel will also follow Axel Foley’s son or what the plot will involve. Prior to BHC becoming a TV pilot, Eddie Murphy was developing a fourth film to the franchise with director Brett Ratner, but the project was called off in 2011. “None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise,†Murphy told Rolling Stone at the time. “If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong … I’m some kind of sequel champion, I did more sequels than anybody. I did my share of sequels for now, anyways.†Looks like the sequel champion is coming back.
