Last season, CBS ordered a pilot co-created by and starring comedian Jim Gaffigan but passed on turning it into a series when it came time to pick new shows in May. Now, THR reports that the network is redeveloping the show for the 2014-15 TV season, a rare move for a network to pull with a failed pilot.
Gaffigan’s show last year, which made our list of the season’s most-promising pilots, was a semi-autobiographical single-camera comedy starring himself as a guy raising five kids with his wife in a New York apartment building. Gaffigan co-created the show with Peter Tolan, and Oscar nominee Mira Sorvino played his wife. Christian Barillas and Tongayi Chirisa co-starred. It’s unclear whether any of the cast beyond Gaffigan will be rolled over into the new version of the pilot, which Gaffigan and Tolan are expected to rewrite. Hopefully, the show goes through Jim Gaffigan gets to play a TV dad someday.
