Here Is an Update on the Mean Girls Musical

Mean Girls.

Fear not, Tina Fey fans (everyone), the Mean Girls musical is still moving along. At a screening of Nebraska hosted by the Peggy Siegal Company last night, Jeff Richmond (Fey’s husband, who is scoring the production) assured us the team is “working on outlines,†“meeting once a week,†and “actually starting to write some stuff.†At this point, there are five songs “floating around,†including a “Fetch†song, which he told Vulture about the last time we asked for an update. “That one is not written yet, but it certainly deserves attention before we get too much further.†There will also be an “October 3rd†number (“On October 3rd, he asked me what day it wasâ€), and the writers are struggling to figure out what to do with the Christmas scene. “Another big question — I’ll leave you with this one — is, When does Regina sing?†he said. “Do you save it until the second act, when all hell breaks loose? When she does the switch in the Burn Book, is that the first time you actually hear her sing? I’m not sure. That’s just a conversation we were having yesterday. That’s the kind of thing we’re talking about right now. So it’s coming, it’s coming along. So at the next boozy function, I’ll have more to share.†Looking forward to it!
