The first The Monuments Men trailer suggested George Clooney might have co-written, directed, and starred in the jokey World War II caper solely because he was upset that he didn’t get to be in Inglourious Basterds (and, understandably, wanted to spend a few months hanging out with Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and John Goodman). The latest trailer plays up the Saving Private Ryan angle, with shots of the team of art historians and museum directors landing in Normandy and two voice-overs in which Clooney explains that rescuing great works of art from Hitler’s clutches is serious business. So yes, there will be killin’ Nazis, but not in a fun Brad Pitt way.
