Back in August, Robin Thicke and Pharrell filed a preemptive lawsuit against Marvin Gaye’s family, telling them to back off with copyright infringement claims. That did not work out. The family filed a counterclaim today that alleges Thicke copied both “Got to Give It Up†(for “Blurred Linesâ€) and “After the Dance†(for “Love After Warâ€). The suit points to multiple interviews in which Thicke himself admits a debt to Gaye and singles out critics who made the comparison. The family is also suing EMI — which works with both parties — for “failing to protect Gaye’s songs†and for bullying them against legal action. In summary: This fight is really on.
