Deadline reports that NBC is developing a remake of Murder, She Wrote starring Octavia Spencer. The show, which will be written by former Desperate Housewives executive producer Alexandra Cunningham, has been given a put pilot commitment. The original Murder, She Wrote was a massive hit, running for twelve seasons, with its iconic star Angela Lansbury getting a record twelve Emmy nominations. How was NBC able to lure the Oscar-winning Spencer away from a flourishing film career? Simple: She just loves mysteries, telling Deadline, “I’ve always considered myself an armchair detective and in a recent meeting with [NBC chairman] Bob Greenblatt, he asked me what type of character would be able to lure me to TV. Naturally, I said ‘J.B. Fletcher’ meets ‘Colombo’ …  And here we are.” One mystery she’s already solved is who shit in that pie.
