What’s better news here – Variety’s report that Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Chris Elliott, and Levy’s son Dan are set to star in a half-hour Canadian comedy, or that the show is called Schitt’s Creek? According to the report, the show – which was co-created by the two Levys – focuses on “video store billionaire Johnny Rose (Levy), his soap star wife Moira (O’Hara) and their kids, who suddenly find themselves broke. They are forced to leave their pampered lives to regroup and rebuild their empire from within the rural city limits of their only remaining asset — Schitt’s Creek, an arm pit of a town they once bought as a joke.†The series will air on Canada’s CBC and begins shooting in Ontario this spring.
On reteaming with his SCTV/frequent Christopher Guest film cast mate Catherina O’Hara, Levy said: “I’m just so proud to be doing this show back here in Canada. And I can’t say enough about the support and encouragement we’ve received from the CBC. I’m also really excited to be working once again with my dear friend Catherine O’Hara. Catherine and I go back a long way to SCTV and I don’t think I’ve worked with anyone more times in my career.†Between Nathan Fielder’s newest Nathan for You stunt, Scott Thompson’s appearance on Colbert, and news of Schitt’s Creek, today is turning out to be a great day for Canadians.
