Watch Mel Brooks Remember Sid Caesar With Conan O’Brien

In his obituary of Sid Caesar, Christopher Bonanos made a case for what made the comic legend so great. After noting Caesar’s trademark physicality, Bonanos wrote, “[Caesar] understood that the words mattered as least as much as the images did.†Caesar was an actor funny people wanted to write for. One of those funny people was Mel Brooks, who wrote for Caesar’s Your Show of Shows. To remember his friend and mentor, Brooks stopped by Conan. Brooks talks about Caesar convincingly speaking fake French in France, why Caesar turned down the opportunity to make movies in his prime, and simply missing his friend.
