Speculation over who will take over David Letterman’s Late Show is now in full force, and Vulture recently got a chance to ask Jon Stewart for his take on the situation. While Stewart doesn’t want the hosting gig for himself – he said “I just don’t have that gear, I don’t think†– he gushed tons of praise for his fellow Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert: “He is a uniquely talented individual. He’s wonderful in Colbert Report, but he’s got gears he hasn’t even shown people yet. He would be remarkable.†Here’s the rest of Stewart’s take on why Colbert would be perfect for the job:
“He’s done an amazing job with just that very narrow cast of character, but he’s got a lot more he can show. He’s got some skill sets that are really applicable, interviewing-wise, but also he’s a really, really good actor and also an excellent improvisational comedian. He’s also got great writing skills. He’s got a lot of the different capacities. Being able to expand upon [those] would be exciting.â€
This news not only knocks Stewart off the list of Late Show replacement candidates but puts way more chance in Colbert’s favor. Considering last week’s news that Colbert is reportedly CBS’s #1 choice for the job, things are looking pretty good for the Colbert Report host, but maybe not so great for diehard Colbert Report fans.
