Contenders for ‘Late Late Show’ Include Michael Ian Black, Joel McHale, and Amy Schumer

While Stephen Colbert’s appointment as David Letterman’s successor went down in record time, THR reports that the hiring process to replace Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show won’t be nearly as easy or fast of a process. There are a bunch of names reportedly being considered by CBS for the gig right now: former Late Late Show contenders Aisha Tyler and Michael Ian Black (who both guest hosted the show before Ferguson got the job), Joel McHale, Daily Show regulars Jason Jones and John Hodgman, and wildcard pick Amy Schumer, who recently made a memorable appearance on Late Show with David Letterman. CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler insists that they’re far from making a decision yet, telling THR: “Obviously, it’s an incredibly valuable time period. We haven’t really thought about it yet. We want to let this sink in.â€

No matter who CBS picks, it will most likely be a decision made with Colbert’s younger audience in mind. “Plan number one has to be something that fits with Colbert to build a franchise,†a media buying firm rep told THR. “[Letterman and Ferguson] always seemed to be separate shows, and now with a clean slate and Colbert in place, they’re going to go for something more seamless.â€
