The latest ‘80s comedy Hollywood is trying to remake is Private Benjamin, and Rebel Wilson has landed the lead role, The Tracking Board reports. Wilson will play a female military recruit who finds the Army to be harder than she expected. A director has yet to be attached to the project.
The original Private Benjamin, released in 1980, starred Goldie Hawn and was one of the highest-grossing movies of that year. The film consistently ends up on lists of the greatest comedies of all-time, like the American Film Institute’s list of top 100 comedies (ranked 82). Anna Faris had previously been cast as the lead in the remake, but the character was changed when Wilson got the part.
