It looks like Paul Rudd’s Anchorman director Adam McKay is now out of the running to replace Edgar Wright on Marvel’s Ant-Man. According to Variety, McKay met with Marvel on Friday but ended up passing on the project. “And yes, met w/Marvel,†McKay confirmed on Twitter late Friday night. “Kirby & Lee r my Lennon Mccartney so it was awesome. But have other projects I’m committed to. Not sure it can work.â€
If the rumored directors up for consideration are accurate, this leaves We’re the Millers’ Rawson Thurber and Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer as the last comedy directors in the running to replace Wright. According to The Wrap, Fleischer getting the gig is unlikely due to the director recently having a baby with his wife and reportedly being considered to direct Ghostbusters III, while Thurber is still fresh off the surprise success of We’re the Millers and “more willing to accommodate producer’s notes and serve a studio’s vision.†In short, the possibility of a uniquely funny Ant-Man is now smaller than ever.
