Watch Six-Time Winner Audra McDonald’s Tearful Tonys Acceptance Speech

There were a lot of emotional moments at this year’s Tony Awards (which is not exactly surprising, given that it’s a bunch of theater kids on stage), but none more powerful than the acceptance speech given by Audra McDonald. Her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill netted her the statue for best lead actress in a play — and, in doing so, made history: She became the first actress to earn six Tonys, as well as the first person to ever win in four different performance categories. She stood at the microphone in tears, paid tribute to the legacy of female African-American singers, and earned a standing ovation. Watch the full speech below.
