A flood of young, female tears has lifted The Fault in Our Stars to the top of the box office. The teen cancer romance earned $48 million over the course of its opening weekend, easily knocking last week’s big winner, Maleficent, down to second place. (Angelina Jolie and her goat eyes brought in $33.5 million this weekend, putting the movie’s domestic total at $127.4 million.) The Tom Cruise–starring Edge of Tomorrow also debuted this weekend, bringing in $29.1 million domestically and landing in third place at the box office. X-Men: Days of Future Past  took fourth place with $14.7 million for a North American total of $189.1 million. And, finally, Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West slipped to number five with $7.2 million, leaving it with a not so impressive $30.1 million in cumulative earnings in its second week out.
