As anticipated, Sigourney Weaver will return for the three Avatar sequels scheduled to start production later this year. In an announcement Monday, James Cameron explained that Weaver will return in a new role since her original character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in the first film. “Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels,†said Cameron, adding that she will play “a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films.†No word on what form said character will take, although last month she told Vulture that her character would “transform somewhat†throughout the three films. Perhaps into a very rich person?
