FXX announced today that they’ve ordered 10 episodes of Man Seeking Woman, a new half-hour comedy created by former SNL writer Simon Rich and starring Jay Baruchel and Eric Andre.
Based on Rich’s book of short stories, The Last Girlfriend on Earth, Man Seeking Woman is a look at the world of dating centered on naive romantic Josh Greenberg (Baruchel). Rich will executive produce alongside Lorne Michaels and Jonathan Krisel, who directed the pilot and is known for being the in-house director/co-creator on Kroll Show and Portlandia. In addition to Baruchel and Andre, Britt Lower (Unforgettable) and Maya Erskine (Betas) are also series regulars. Man Seeking Woman is expected to premiere on FXX in 2015.
Man Seeking Woman will become FX offshoot FXX’s fourth current original comedy, joining It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, and Ali G: Rezurection. FXX’s Wilfred is set to end its run with its upcoming season and Tracy Morgan’s untitled new series is also coming to the network after its star recovers from a car accident that left him in critical condition. Eric Andre will presumably be able to work on Man Seeking Woman concurrently with his Adult Swim series The Eric Andre Show as they’re both short-run cable series. Man Seeking Woman will become Lorne Michaels’s eighth current show on the air, joining Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Portlandia, Seth Meyers’s Hulu series The Awesomes, and the upcoming Mulaney and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
