Last month, news broke that Tony-winning British performer James Corden had been named the new host of The Late Late Show, and today CBS officially confirmed the update. Corden will take over for Ferguson after he leaves this December, and in the meantime Corden stars in Begin Again with Kiera Knightley and Mark Ruffalo as well as the upcoming Disney musical Into the Woods with Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, and Emily Blunt. Here’s Corden’s official statement regarding his Late Late Show hiring:
“I can’t describe how thrilled and honored I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson. To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America’s #1 network is hugely exciting. I can’t wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy.â€
According to CBS exec Nina Tassler, the network is “very excited†to introduce Corden to American audiences and called him “a rare entertainment force who combines irresistable charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent.†For a look at what Corden might bring to the CBS late night circuit, check out our video guide of some of his best known comedic work.
