Earlier this month, during one of his concert soliloquies, Kanye West announced that he had called Jay Pharoah to discuss the comedian’s MTV Movie Awards speech. It was a positive talk, Kanye said, and when we caught up with Pharoah last night at the Peggy Siegal screening screening of The Equalizer at the AMC Lincoln Square 13 Imax, he confirmed that story. When asked exactly what went down, Pharoah told us that Kanye said, “I’m not knocking you, and I appreciate what you did. I know what you’re up against, and you know, it’s cool. Like, we’re friends now, it’s cool.†See, Kanye can sort of take a joke. As for whether Pharoah will do the impression in the future, he’s not sure if we’ll see it on SNL, but “I do it in my stand-up.â€
