Last week Taylor Swift took her music of Spotify, saying, “I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.†Since, a debate has been sparked about streaming and the future of the music business. Now Dave Grohl stuck his flag into the issue. “I don’t fucking care,†Grohl told Digital Spy. “I don’t care if you pay $1 or fucking $20 for it, just listen to the fucking song.†He understands the counterpoint, but for him, it comes down to getting people to see your show. “You want people to fucking listen to your music? Give them your music. And then go play a show. They like hearing your music? They’ll go see a show. To me it’s that simple, and I think it used to work that way.†He concluded by saying, “Nowadays there’s so much focus on technology that it doesn’t really matter.†Adding, “Back in my day, when music meant something, it was simply a bunch of men in a hut banging sticks against different sized rocks. That’s what rock ’n’ roll is about.â€
