Writing partners Rashida Jones and Will McCormack just added a big movie project. Slash Film reports that they’ve signed on to cowrite Toy Story 4, the latest sequel to Pixar’s megahit franchise after the original film in 1995 and two sequels in 1999 and 2010. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news that Pixar will release the film on June 16, 2017 with original director John Lasseter onboard to direct. No details on the plot have been confirmed yet, but Lasseter called it a “love story†in an interview with the LA Times. Here’s what he had to say on the sequel in a statement:
We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew [Stanton], Pete [Docter], Lee [Unkrich], and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.
